Amazon MQ adds RabbitMQ 4.3 support, deprecates classic queues v1 storage

AWS What's New announces support for RabbitMQ version 4.3 on Amazon MQ, introducing features like quorum queue enhancements, including compaction, expanded priority levels, native delayed retries, and configurable consumer timeouts. These updates aim to improve performance and resource efficiency, particularly for quorum queues. RabbitMQ 4.3 also includes bug fixes and memory management improvements. However, certain features such as transient non-exclusive queues, Global QoS, and Classic queues v1 storage are no longer supported. Consumer timeouts now apply only to quorum queues and are configurable via RabbitMQ Policies.

Operators planning to upgrade to RabbitMQ 4.3 should evaluate their current usage of deprecated features, especially Classic queues v1 storage and Global QoS. If these features are integral to existing workflows, adjustments or migrations may be necessary before upgrading. Additionally, operators should verify compatibility of their configurations with the new consumer timeout and delayed retry mechanisms, as these settings are now managed differently. This release aligns with a broader trend in RabbitMQ updates, focusing on quorum queue optimizations and deprecating legacy features to enhance scalability and resource efficiency.
